What Is Machine Learning?

Deep learning is a specific type of machine learning that allows a machine to learn from itself rather than any outside sources. This process is a working example of “practice makes perfect.”

A machine will first figure out how to perform a task, then keep performing it in different ways until it finds the most efficient method.

2. Natural Language Processing

Technically, this field goes back to the 1950s, with related ideas first put forth by Alan Turing. Turing is famous for helping to crack the enigma code created by the Germans during World War II. He also created the Turing test, which tests whether a machine can be communicated with and mistaken for another human.

The latter of these was one of the first ideas put forth in the field of Natural Language Processing. Natural Language Processing, also called NLP, is a term that refers to a machine’s ability to comprehend and manipulate human language.

It is NLP that allows our computers to deliver messages that we understand. The next time your computer gives you a message about updating your anti-virus program, you’ll understand a bit more about how that happens. 

The field itself may be quite old, but new innovations are being created all the time. This is because some aspects of language that most of us due in an instant is still being programmed into machines.

One of the most recent developments is BERT, a system created by Google. BERT is better at understanding the meanings and emotions behind messages, as well as answering questions, and detecting when something has been summarized.
